4 batana u bazi
The foundation of batana was formed within the “Batanas in Rovinj’s Harbour” project which was started in 2004 with the creation of the House of Batana/Casa della batana. In the context of a permanent exhibition an interactive panel with fields in which the registration signs of batana boats corresponding to the data from the registry of Rovinj’s harbour master were entered. Young members from the photo-workshop group of the “Galileo Galilei” society of Rovinj, under the mentorship of the photographer Goran Ukić, conducted field research, photographing all the batana boats which were anchored in Rovinj’s harbour in 2005. Members of the documentary-workshop group, mentored by Miroslav Stanišić, digitalised all the photographs and properly archived them and this became Rovinj’s batana database. Research carried out during 2006 continued by Vida Papić, the Ecomuseum collaborator, which surveyed 28 surviving owners of batana boats, resulted in important information about the boats and their owners (emboldened words are the participants’ responses). This material is the basis for the further systematic documentation and cataloguing of Rovinj’s batanas which is the foundation for their systematic care and maintenance.
