The TRANS MARIS project is implemented from February 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027, and is focused on the intergenerational transfer of maritime knowledge as a foundation for sustainable cultural tourism.
The project partners are the House of Batana Institution from Rovinj and the Municipality of Cesenatico (Comune di Cesenatico). The project brings together young people from Rovinj, Cesenatico, and the Venetian Lagoon area, connecting them with experienced bearers of traditional knowledge.
The central activity of the project is a structured mentoring program through which skills in rowing, sailing, sailmaking and maintenance, as well as the upkeep of traditional vessels, will be passed on to younger generations. The goal is to involve young people in preserving intangible maritime heritage while empowering them to develop innovative and environmentally sustainable tourism offerings based on heritage.
The project aims to preserve endangered maritime knowledge and skills, recognizing them as a source of creativity, employability, and cross-border cooperation. A key result will be the development of a transferable mentoring model intended for further application within broader networks, including the Association of Mediterranean Maritime Museums.
The total value of the project is EUR 197,904.00, of which EUR 158,323.20 is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Interreg Italy–Croatia Programme.
